End Abusive Use of Tasers in U.S. Jails

Video footage obtained by Reuters reveals disturbing incidents of officers and prison guards abusing their authority by using tasers, unnecessarily, on incarcerated people.

One case involves the 2009 tasing of 20-year-old pregnant and handcuffed Martini Smith, who experienced a miscarriage just five days later.

Another is the 2016 repeated tasing of a 19-year-old man despite his being strapped in a restraint chair.

United Nations experts have called for an investigation, classifying this widespread abuse of tasers in U.S. jails as torture.

To the Office of the Attorney General:

We demand a federal investigation into the abusive use of tasers in jails across the United States.
