Support Prisoners' Demands for Humane Treatment
Prisoners in at least 17 states have coordinated a nationwide prison strike to end inhumane treatment behind bars.
In recognition of the history of slave rebels and prison resistors, the nationwide prison strike was planned for August 21, the day Nat Turner led an uprising of slaves in 1831 and the 47th anniversary of the death of George Jackson, a prominent African-American prison advocate; until September 9, the 47th anniversary of the Attica prison rebellion, the largest prison uprising of the 1970s prison movement, in which more than 40 people were killed.
