Media want war in Syria. We don't.
Only 15% of the U.S. public wants the U.S. military involved in Syria, and only 11% wants the U.S. providing weapons to the Syrian opposition.
The corporate media outlets are working to change this admirable outlook. Interviewers, including Candy Crowley on CNN, have hosted panels of all pro-war guests. David Muir on ABC News and David Gregory on NBC's Meet the Press reported unsubstantiated White House claims about chemical weapons as "confirmed," when the only confirmation was the White House claims.
A broader war in Syria risks dragging in a number of nations, with consequences unforeseeable and terrible. The best likely outcome of such a war would be an unpopular anti-democratic Syrian government, installed against the will of the U.S. public, in the name of democracy.
Now is the time to raise our voices.
