If Press Loses Freedom, Democracy Is Sunk

Freedom of the press is essential to democracy. But the Obama administration has been virtually unrepentant ever since news broke that the Justice Department seized the phone records of Associated Press journalists for two months. Attorney General Eric Holder defended this chilling move against the press. A White House spokesperson tried to finesse the issue. And the president himself has not stepped forward to acknowledge that a serious intrusion on press freedom has occurred.
