| The U.S. economy, society, culture, and millions of families and individuals cannot wait any longer for student debt relief. President Biden has the power to cancel debt by executive order and is not using it. He also has the power to make public college tuition free and cease generating so much student debt going forward.
It serves no one well -- not even people who suffered through paying their student debt or have no student debt -- for a significant portion of the U.S. population to be massively indebted, unable to take risks, invest, plan, or care for loved ones.
Most wealthy countries, and some poor ones, make higher education a public service, a human right, not a path to a lifetime of indebtedness. We won't get the United States on that path without eliminating this crushing debt burden.
The Republican-majority excuse is gone. The filibuster excuse does not apply. President Biden can act, if only he will.
Tell Joe Biden to move the country forward through actions like cancelling student debt -- and not settle for a return to the unequal 2016 status quo.

Amid heightened working-class anger and despair, Biden seems to think returning to the Obama-era politics of playing it safe and not rocking the boat will deliver the American people from a healthcare and economic crisis -- despite these same hesitant politics having delivered us Donald Trump only four years ago.
Reversing Trump’s executive orders is simply not enough. And honoring “traditions” in the hope that a ruthless GOP will return the favor is a fool’s errand. The Republican Party has shown time and again that it will destroy precedents to benefit the super rich, corporate donors, and political power.
Progressives know we should NOT unilaterally disarm in the name of traditions that GOP leaders regularly and willfully obliterate. The time is now for impactful actions that cannot be prevented by Mitch McConnell and the GOP.
Add your name to this petition to demand that Joe Biden sign an executive order to cancel student debt within his first 100 days.
Forty-five million people in this country are burdened with $1.7 trillion in student debt. An order to cancel student debt is not only morally just, it would serve as a crucial stimulus the U.S. people need. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer has encouraged Biden to take executive action on student debt.
By canceling student debt, we can stimulate the economy from the ground up, push back against growing wealth gaps, and make it possible for young adults to pursue their dreams -- including careers helping the most vulnerable among us. As president, Joe Biden will have the power to administratively cancel billions in student loan debt.
We demand that Biden use that power. Sign the petition now.
