RootsAction: Connect. Act. Grow.

Corporate Democrats are now loudly scapegoating progressives because the party lost some seats in the House.

Being trashed by fellow Democrats on Capitol Hill is no fun. And the atmosphere has taken a more toxic turn in recent days. But some brave progressives in Congress are pushing back -- emphatically and eloquently.

Rashida Tlaib is a wonderful standout. “I can’t be silent,” she told Politico days ago.

As Congresswoman Tlaib gears up for what she calls “the fight ahead,” you can quickly show your support with a donation.

In her Detroit-area district, Rashida went all-out to mobilize the vote and defeat Trump in a pivotal swing state. Meanwhile, for several months, RootsAction had a full-time staffer in Michigan -- along with other staff and hundreds of volunteers in swing states -- working tirelessly for our Vote Trump Out campaign.

Now, as Rashida Tlaib makes crystal clear, we must combine our 24/7 opposition to right-wing agendas with a commitment to progressive goals that must be relentlessly pursued.

If you agree, a way to help is to make a contribution that will be split between Rashida Tlaib and RootsAction.

“We’ve got to focus on working class people,” Congresswoman Tlaib said. And she added: “We are done waiting to be heard or prioritized by the federal government. I won’t let leaders of either party silence my residents’ voices any longer.”

Refuting the claims from some Democratic Party power brokers, Tlaib pointed out that “Democratic candidates in swing districts who openly supported progressive policies, like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal, won their races.”

In her recent Politico interview, she said: “We’re not going to be successful if we’re silencing districts like mine. Me not being able to speak on behalf of many of my neighbors right now, many of which are black neighbors, means me being silenced. I can’t be silent.”

Tlaib’s district is one of the poorest in the nation. “Choking up as she expressed frustration near the end of an interview,” Politico reported, she said: “If [voters] can walk past blighted homes and school closures and pollution to vote for Biden-Harris, when they feel like they don’t have anything else, they deserve to be heard. I can’t believe that people are asking them to be quiet.”

And she was clear: “We are not interested in unity that asks people to sacrifice their freedom and their rights any longer. And if we truly want to unify our country, we have to really respect every single voice. We say that so willingly when we talk about Trump supporters, but we don’t say that willingly for my black and brown neighbors and from LGBTQ or marginalized people.”

At RootsAction, we’re persisting in strong solidarity. During the summer and fall, we poured thousands of hours of staff time and hundreds of thousands of dollars into our Vote Trump Out project. Now, we’re equally committed to the vital tasks that must include, in the words of Rashida Tlaib, “pushing the Democratic Party to represent the communities that elected them.”

Thank you!
