You can send this message to your two senators and one representative:

It is long past time to end the barbaric practice of providing war weapons to police -- weapons that give police the ability to wage war against the public and the idea that they should be doing so.

As your constituent, I urge you to immediately join with those members of both houses and parties who are working to ban the provision of war weapons to police.

RootsAction has pressed for this reform for many years, with only partial success. We need to seize this moment to finally make it stick, despite the one thing the current policy is good for: the profits of a small number of influential people.

Senator Brian Schatz of Hawaii has said he will introduce an amendment to the big annual military bill to entirely shut down the federal progam that unloads war weapons on police departments.

“It is clear that many police departments are being outfitted as if they are going to war, and it is not working in terms of maintaining the peace,” he's quoted as saying in the New York Times.

Senator Rand Paul and Representative Ruben Gallego are among those already speaking up to make this happen.

Meanwhile President Donald Trump has been praising police use of tear gas, despite the fact that one protester in Indiana reportedly just lost his eye to a tear gas canister. “They just walked right down the street, knocking them out with tear gas, tear gas,” Trump said in praise of police. “These guys, they were running.”

Pentagon Chief Mark Esper told U.S. state governors this week, "We need to dominate the battle space!”
