RootsAction: Connect. Act. Grow.
Four years ago, a DIY.RootsAction.org petition asked Senator Bernie Sanders to decline an invitation to speak at the Washington D.C. Policy Conference of AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. Sanders did decline to attend (and AIPAC declined to allow him to speak by video).

We're asking Bernie to do the same again this year. Please click here to add your name.

AIPAC promotes the racist, militaristic, and anti-democratic policies of the right-wing Israeli government. If the Russian government had something like AIPAC in Washington, that outrage would quite possibly generate the biggest news story in U.S. media history.

On February 12th, the Prime Minister of Israel bragged on Twitter of Israel's influence over U.S. legislation: "In recent years, we have promoted laws in most US states, which determine that strong action is to be taken against whoever tries to boycott Israel."

AIPAC's conferences have featured Islamophobes, anti-immigrant activists, and religious extremists. With his promise to seek a "level playing field" on Israel-Palestine, Bernie does not belong on the same stage as these figures.

AIPAC has been running Facebook ads targeting Bernie in early primary states. For many years, the U.S. government has given the Israeli government billions of dollars in free weapons while claiming to want the Israeli government to behave more peacefully. Bernie Sanders' gravest affront to AIPAC may be that he finally uttered the sensible idea of conditioning "aid" to Israel on Israel's behavior.

AIPAC has also been running ads claiming that U.S. Congress members are more sinister threats than ISIS. Congresswoman Betty McCollum has subsequently denounced AIPAC as a "hate group."
