Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, just in recent days, has introduced along with Rep. Barbara Lee a resolution to end U.S. war on Iran, seen that resolution passed by the House, educated the U.S. public about the PTSD of war survivors (the vast majority of whom are not soldiers), and addressed Senator Lindsey Graham thus:
"Senator, some of us still respect the Constitution and understand our role in Congress isn't to bow or kiss the ring of the President. This is a republic and not a monarchy!"

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, this past week, introduced and passed an amendment to ensure that communities that have been disproportionately impacted by environmental destruction receive priority funding to rebuild infrastructure and deal with PFAS contamination, demanded that every Congress member submit to DNA collection in order to understand the cruel treatment of immigrants, supported the successful passage of the resolution to end war on Iran, advocated for diplomacy and de-escalation, and campaigned in Iowa for Bernie Sanders.

Ilhan and Rashida!

These two Congresswomen this week also led the way in building resistance to the latest discriminatory travel ban announced by the Trump administration.

Both of these courageous woman are being challenged in primaries by corporate, right-leaning Democrats. We cannot afford to lose them. We need them in Congress for the good they do, and as examples to other districts and candidates around the country. We have to show that when we finally get people in office doing what we've always wanted, we can keep them there.

In 2019, these two women sought to enter Palestine in support of human rights, and Israel blocked them, a move that clearly backfired. Supporting human rights for Palestinians is going mainstream.

We need more people with the courage to do the right thing, not fewer.

Tlaib and Omar are leaders in Congress for a Green New Deal, tuition-free public college, and Medicare for All. And they aren't afraid to demand that resources be moved from militarism to human and environmental needs. In 2019, Congresswoman Tlaib said:
"Spending $733 billion on fighter jets and nuclear weapons not only brings our communities no closer to the economic opportunity we all deserve, it actually makes our nation less safe to do so. . . . It would cost $71 million to fix the lead-tainted plumbing in the Detroit Public Schools Community District – or about half of the $140 million this budget allocates for just 8 military helicopters."

Congresswoman Omar's website says:
"I believe in an inclusive foreign policy — one that centers on human rights, justice and peace as the pillars of America’s engagement in the world, one that brings our troops home and truly makes military action a last resort. This means reorienting our foreign affairs to focus on diplomacy and economic and cultural engagement. I strongly advocate for international programs that address the climate crisis, increase economic opportunity, end mass incarceration, and protect vulnerable populations, just as I do domestically."
