Imagine the nonstop cable TV news outrage if a nation that the U.S. government was eager to overthrow did this.

In the face of Hurricane Dorian, parts of the south-eastern United States have issued mandatory evacuation orders, but prison officials have decided not to relocate prisoners.

Click here to join with RootsAction and Color of Change in demanding that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) protect prisoners by delivering life-saving supplies directly to them.

In the aftermath of recent hurricanes, incarcerated people have been forced to contend with their roofs being blown off from over their heads, having to wade through and even drink contaminated chest-deep water, food and medicine shortages, and maximized oppression or disciplinary measures as a result of staff shortages.

As these storms keep coming, the results will eventually include the deaths of prisoners. This is unacceptable and entirely preventable. We need to establish better practices. FEMA’s national and regional offices must implement policies to ensure adequate food and water for prisoners and immigrant detainees in advance and in the aftermath of disasters.

There is a crisis right now.

Click here to insist that FEMA provide resources, including food and bottled water, to all prisons, jails, and detention facilities within Hurricane Dorian’s path.

After signing the petition, please use the tools on the next webpage to share it with your friends.
