In the wake of yet another mass shooting, the Governor of Virginia has put out a request for ideas on what to do about guns. The city of Richmond has just banned guns from city-owned buildings and parks. That's a tiny start, if the state lets the city do it. In Virginia, the state forbids local action on just about everything, so it is to the state that Virginians must take their demands.

Let's let the Governor of Virginia hear from all over the country that we want serious action.

To: Virginia Governor Ralph Northam

With the support of Thom Hartmann, author of
"The Hidden History of Guns and the Second Amendment," we encourage you to enact these solutions for guns that have long been useful for cars:

  1. Require registration and title for every gun.
  2. Require a license based on a written and a shooting-range test.
  3. Require gun owners to carry liability insurance.

In addition, we demand that semiautomatic weapons be restricted under the same laws as automatic weapons.

There is a nationwide U.S. epidemic of gun violence. Guns are the second-leading cause of death among children in the United States. Guns kill about 34,000 people per year in the United States, two-thirds of those being suicides.

Countries with reasonable gun laws do not have this level of gun violence.
