Should impeachment proceedings begin against Donald Trump? In an ABC News / Washington Post poll, 49% in the U.S. say yes, 43% say no. And there's plenty of room for those numbers to move even further against Trump, as 60% of the public "disapproves" of the job he's doing, and many people tend to wait for at least one political party to support an action like impeachment before they support it.

RootsAction.org has promoted impeachment since inauguration day. We're gaining ground with the public. We still need to bring around Congress, which in turn will bring around more of the public. Contribute to this cause here.

In further good news, 45% say corruption has increased since Trump arrived in D.C., while 13% say it has decreased. The issue of corruption and Trump's refusal to divest himself of his worldwide business interests was the issue on which we launched our impeachment campaign in January 2017, and one of those we continue to promote as the best documented and most important to act on.

The new poll results compared poll numbers from the Bill Clinton presidency, none of which found impeachment support as high among the public as it is now for Trump. Yet Clinton was impeached by Republicans in Congress.

The Washington Post reports on the new poll, and notes that, "In January 1974, well into the Watergate scandal, Richard Nixon’s poll numbers on impeachment were better than President Trump’s are now." Yet Nixon saw the writing on the wall and resigned.

Whether Trump is impeached and convicted, as well as whether his successor feels compelled to restrain his own abuses of power, may depend on whether the charges brought against Trump are the well-documented charges found in our draft Articles of Impeachment. We need your involvement to make sure impeachment is done right.
