A historic moment is imminent -- when the 32 Californians on the Democratic National Committee can help to end the unfair power of “superdelegates” in selecting the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.
Those DNC members from our state need to hear from us -- now -- before they cast their votes later this month.
By clicking here, you can find out more and sign a petition that will urge the California members of the DNC to “unite behind passage of much-needed superdelegate reform.”
This is an issue of democracy.
During the 2016 election campaign, more than half of the superdelegates (party officials and Democrats in Congress or state offices) publicly committed themselves to Hillary Clinton nearly three months before a single voter had cast a ballot in a primary or caucus -- thus sending a message that party elites had already put their thumbs on the scales.
Now there’s a proposal that would prevent superdelegates from casting a vote on the first ballot at the 2020 Democratic National Convention -- unless one of the candidates has already secured enough democratically elected “pledged” delegates in primaries and caucuses to win the nomination outright. (The party’s national convention hasn’t had a second ballot in more than 60 years.)
This petition is co-sponsored by RootsAction, the Progressive Caucus of the California Democratic Party, Progressive Democrats of America, and the California Democratic Party’s Chicano Latino Caucus.
Take action now -- and let’s make some good history!
