The Harvard Kennedy School just caved.
Pressure from top CIA officials has caused a Harvard dean to announce that the university is canceling its invitation to Chelsea Manning to be a visiting fellow.
Harvard isn't disinviting anyone else who's been granted a fellowship at the Kennedy School. The list includes former Trump press secretary Sean Spicer.
So, someone who frequently lied to the nation from the White House is still A-OK for a prestigious fellowship as far as the Harvard Kennedy School is concerned, but truth-teller Chelsea Manning doesn't make the grade.
Please click here to sign a petition to the Kennedy School's dean, Douglas Elmendorf, condemning the decision to revoke Chelsea Manning's fellowship.
Apparently Dean Elmendorf, who announced the decision, cares a lot more about staying in the good graces of CIA officials than he does about academic freedom. This morning's account in the New York Times makes clear that Harvard has succumbed to pressure from present and former CIA officials.
"The decision by the Kennedy School" to revoke Chelsea Manning's fellowship "followed forceful denunciations by a former top official at the CIA and the current director at the agency," the Times reports.
