No More Cluster Bombs Ever
The last U.S. maker of cluster bombs has stopped producing them . . . for the moment. While 100 nations have ratified a treaty banning cluster bombs, the United States still treats this horrible weapon as legal. | Background: > Foreign Policy: Last Remaining U.S. Maker of Cluster Bombs Stops Production > Handicap International: Alarming Escalation of Cluster Munition Use in Yemen and Syria > The Convention on Cluster Munitions |
The halt in U.S. production follows protests of the bombing of civilians in Yemen, a White House pause in shipments to Saudi Arabia, and peace activist demonstrations outside the manufacturer.
A report by Handicap International finds that "97% of victims of cluster munitions were civilians in 2015, and 36% were children. The conflicts in Yemen and Syria are among the most hazardous."
Let's seize this moment when production has ceased to put a legal ban in place. Click below to email your Congress member and senators.
