Breitbart News -- the extreme right-wing megaphone that Steve Bannon amplified as executive chairman -- got one thing correct in a lengthy attack on RootsAction.org three months ago. We were completely serious about defeating Trump. And we’re just as serious about organizing for a progressive agenda during the Biden presidency.
That’s why RootsAction is gearing up to push back against the forces of corporate power that are already getting a grip on the incoming Biden administration. Consider these warning signs:
• As heroic environmentalist Erin Brockovich wrote days ago, Joe Biden has put a “chemical industry insider” on his transition team for the Environmental Protection Agency. In an article for The Guardian, Brockovich pointed out that Michael McCabe did PR work for DuPont “when the chemical company was looking to fight regulations” on its “toxic manmade chemical” PFOA.
• Biden just appointed a darling of oil and gas companies to be the director of the new administration’s Office of Public Engagement. As Common Dreams reports, climate activists were “outraged” at the appointment of Congressman Cedric Richmond -- “who has raked in vast campaign contributions from the fossil fuel industry.”
• Media reports say Biden is seriously considering the austerity hawk Bruce Reed as director of the powerful Office of Management and Budget. Reed, who championed the draconian 1996 welfare “reform” law, headed the staff of the Bowles-Simpson Commission that called for cuts in Social Security.
