| A pattern of horrendous inaction and deception from Donald Trump has enabled the coronavirus to gain fast-growing momentum in the United States.
It’s now imperative to do everything possible to contain and stop this pandemic. And we must defeat Trump in the November election.
At RootsAction, we’ve assessed the proposals that Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders have released to address the coronavirus emergency. The Sanders plan is far better -- truly commensurate with the scale of the unprecedented crisis.
Biden proposes to tweak the health care system, while Sanders is calling for far-reaching measures that include free health care for all: “Medicare will ensure that everyone in America, regardless of existing coverage, can receive the health care they need during this crisis.”
While Biden proposes to aid only some who suffer economic distress, the Sanders plan includes “emergency $2,000 cash payments to every person in America every month for the duration of the crisis.”
Overall, while Biden is offering a patchwork scenario, Sanders has laid out a framework for the United States to “mobilize on a scale not seen since the New Deal and World War II to prevent deaths, job losses, and economic ruin.”
RootsAction has supported Sanders throughout the primary process, and we continue to believe that his visionary proposals must be widely heard and heeded.
As starkly illustrated by responses to the coronavirus emergency, Bernie Sanders exemplifies the kind of leadership we need.
