House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerrold Nadler recently told CNN:
"My personal view is that [Trump] richly deserves impeachment. He has done many impeachable — he’s violated the law six ways from Sunday. But that is not the question. The question is can we develop enough evidence to put before the American people . . . ."
Does Chairman Nadler believe that we require still more evidence? Why?
At RootsAction we've drafted 23 articles of impeachment (see link at bottom) most of which do not require any new evidence that isn't already public. Impeachment hearings should be held on these articles for the purpose of educating the public, the media, and the Senate. But investigations of possible offenses that have not yet been established should not excuse any further delays.

The Constitutional ban on domestic “emoluments” (accepting benefits or profits from being president; Article II, Section 1) is absolute, not waivable by Congress, and not subject to proving any particular corrupting influence. Trump has blatantly violated it from day 1. He has also openly violated the foreign emoluments clause (Article I, Section 9) from his first day in office.
According to Rep. Nadler, in a press release from his office, "President Trump has flagrantly ignored the Foreign Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, but we do not yet know the extent of his violations."
Do we need to? Not according to the U.S. Constitution. "Flagrantly ignoring" that clause is impeachable.
Here are the titles of some of the other articles of impeachment that are based entirely on public acts, not disputed, and hardly in need of much further investigation:
- Incitement of Violence
- Interference With Voting Rights
- Discrimination Based On Religion
- Illegal War
- Illegal Threat of Nuclear War
- Abuse of Pardon Power
- Failure to Reasonably Prepare for or Respond to Hurricanes Harvey and Maria
- Separating Children and Infants from Families
- Refusal to Comply With Subpoenas
- Declaration of Emergency Without Basis In Order to Violate the Will of Congress
- Illegal Proliferation of Nuclear Technology
- Illegally Removing the United States from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty
There can be no question that this collection of abuses against law and the Constitution justifies impeachment.
