Despite opposition from progressives, Nancy Pelosi is trying to revive her pay-as-you-go rule, requiring that all new spending be paid for by budget cuts or revenue offsets.
By and large, supporters of this move are not proposing cuts to the military or taxes on the wealthy. If they were to do so, then they wouldn't need PayGo.
This rule will serve to block a New Green Deal, Medicare for All, College for All, and any other major useful investment.
A vote is believed to be imminent.

"Sanders' top aide putting out a challenge," tweeted journalist David Dayen after Warren Gunnels, aide to Senator Bernie Sanders, tweeted this:
"In order for #PayGo to go into effect, it needs to pass the House. If some 18 Dems vote no, it fails. The vote will take place on Thursday. Will enough progressives have the courage to vote no on the first roadblock to #MedicareForAll, #GreenNewDeal & #CollegeForAll? Let's see."
