How many Congress Members does it take to decipher this message?
Mark Twain might have put the estimate fairly high when he remarked that "fleas can be taught nearly anything that a Congressman can." Or perhaps we're underestimating fleas.
Still, we can't help being encouraged by the fact that the members of the House of Representatives who voted to move forward with Trump's impeachment at the most recent opportunity have risen to 66, with another 3 hedging their bets by voting neither Yea nor Nay but rather "Present." Of course, we need to get to something around 217 by the time we're through.
We're building a new campaign, set to launch in the next two weeks, that will encourage those members of Congress who now understand that it is time for impeachment, while working to bring on board those who haven't yet quite figured this puzzle out.
To do this most effectively will require resources that we simply do not have at the moment. What we have are numbers. If we all both use our voices and chip in a small amount, we will find our strength. Percy Bysshe Shelley might have been speaking these words to us:
Rise, like lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number!
Shake your chains to earth, like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you:
Ye are many—they are few!
Let's pool our resources. Let's build on the current momentum. Let's make impeachment irresistible!
