While major media have recently exposed some of President Trump's misdeeds, the culpability of Vice President Mike Pence has generally been downplayed -- despite Pence's pattern of false statements, misdirection and blind obedience on behalf of Trump.
Click here to tell media outlets that they should stop letting Pence off the hook.
When President Trump fired FBI director James Comey, Pence lavishly praised the decision and took a lead role in promoting the White House falsehood that Comey was fired NOT because of any ongoing FBI investigation, but because Trump was merely accepting a Justice Department recommendation.
Despite Pence's repeated and vociferous insistence about Trump's motive, it was shown to be bogus hours later . . . thanks to Trump's own admission.
Pence wants journalists to believe he's out of the loop when his public statements turn out to be false. Urge mainstream journalists to aggressively scrutinize such claims instead of just giving Pence a pass.
Mike Pence chaired the Trump transition team. Michael Flynn, a volatile retired general and tireless campaigner for the Trump/Pence ticket, was appointed National Security Advisor despite media reports and private warnings to both Pence and the transition team that Flynn had accepted big payments to lobby for Turkish interests in the U.S.
Well after he was forced to resign three weeks into the job, Flynn belatedly registered as a foreign agent on behalf of Turkey. Yet Pence stunningly declared to Fox News: "Hearing that story today was the first I’d heard of it."
Again, either Pence was lying or he was negligently out of the loop of the transition team that he was officially chairing. Please take action now and call for journalists to dig into such stories instead of glossing over them.
Pence became Trump’s running-mate weeks after Trump had attacked the fairness of a federal judge because he was "Mexican." The judge -- a U.S. citizen whose parents were Mexican immigrants -- was actually born and raised in Indiana, where Pence was the sitting governor. It took goading by Indiana Democrats before Pence weighed in, merely calling the comments "inappropriate."
Last fall, when Trump unleashed a bizarre 5 a.m. twitter storm against a former Miss Universe (calling her "disgusting" and urging people to check out her alleged "sex tape"), Pence couldn't muster any criticism of Trump but did complain about news media focusing too much on Trump’s tweeting.
Amid the questions raised recently by journalists about Team Trump's credibility, it's worth asking whether sufficient scrutiny has focused on the loyal vice president who has so significantly aided and abetted Trump. Please sign here to challenge media passivity about Pence.
It's the job of serious journalists to hold ALL those in power accountable on behalf of the public, including a vice president who is often overshadowed by his more flagrant boss . . . but who remains a heartbeat away.
